Shampoo for British Longhair
Ceci est un test.
This is a test.
The British Longhair is a teddy bear with a round face and a gentle temperament. This calm, peaceful cat comes from Great Britain and is a cross between the British Shorthair and the Persian. It has existed for centuries, yet it was recognised only recently. These endearing cats are affectionate, loyal and undemanding. If you are looking for a family cat or a devoted companion, the British Longhair is an excellent choice.
Its medium length, dense coat needs regular brushing, particularly during the winter or spring moult, so that it does not swallow too much hair while grooming. A medium length coat asks for more care than a short one. True to its reputation as a very clean animal, your British Longhair looks after its own coat, but an occasional bath keeps it healthy and shiny.
The shampoo has to match those needs, which here means a product for medium length, silky cat hair. You will find it at Ladybel, a French manufacturer of premium shampoos for cats, dogs and small pets, and the whole cat shampoo range is on our category page.
What are the characteristics of the British Longhair?
The British Longhair combines the main traits of the British Shorthair and the Persian: it is a calm, reserved and kind cat. It also forms a strong bond of affection with its owner. It loves to play, adores children and is very sociable, which is why it is often called the pet par excellence. It enjoys the company of its own kind as much as that of dogs.
As with the British Shorthair, there are solid and particolour British Longhairs. Their shades run from the classic black and brown, or chocolate, through cinnamon and red, to the so called dilutions: blue, lilac, fawn and cream. Black, white and tricolour cats often look like long haired domestic cats. Cats described as shaded carry a specific colour at the tip of the hair only, so it should be seen not as a shade but as a striking visual effect.
Because of their sedentary life, British Longhairs are prone to obesity. Their diet must be balanced to maintain both the beauty of the coat and good health. It should contain high quality proteins, lipids, and essential vitamins and minerals, and you can opt for kibble formulated for long haired cats.
Where does the British Longhair come from?
The British Longhair descends from the British Shorthair. After the First World War, British breeders lost interest in the British Shorthair and its numbers fell. To try to save the breed, they crossed cats without pedigree with Persians. Those crosses introduced a long hair gene in some kittens which, seen as a fault, led to those animals being set aside.
The same pattern occurred after the Second World War, this time with crosses involving Birman, Chartreux, Russian Blue and Persian cats. The British Longhair was finally created, and the medium length haired kittens were removed from the litters. Because the breed was only recently bred for its specific traits, it reached breed status in recent history. Long ignored, hidden and even denied, the British Longhair finally established itself in its own right alongside its cousin the British Shorthair. Calm and relaxed, it is the ideal family cat.
Which shampoo for a British Longhair?
Ladybel offers several cat shampoos. They are among the best on the market, yet several factors deserve thought before you choose the one that suits your British Longhair. If you have any doubt, ask your vet for advice. Does your cat have skin problems? What colour is its coat, and could a colour enhancer bring out its natural shade? Which ingredients should you favour? Is the hair dull, and what is its texture?
Here is the list of Ladybel cat shampoos, in which you will find the one that suits your cat best.
